Colon hydrotherapy is the process of warm, filtered water being gently fused into the colon through the anus via a plastic tubing that is disposable. This procedure must be performed by a certified or licensed professional for optimum results and safety.

Your colon is a very important part of your body.

With Colon cancer being the #2 cause of death in the US and 100,000 people having their colon removed annually, it is nothing to be hush hush about. The colon or large intestine is a tube-like muscular organ that eliminates fecal material through wave-like motions known as peristalsis. It is approximately 5 ½ feet long and 2 inches in diameter and is a vital part of your digestive system.

More About Colon Hydrotherapy:

Colon Hydrotherapy is an AGE OLD practice of cleansing the colon (large intestine). Colon lavage was first recorded in 1500 BC in the ancient Egyptian document, Ebers Papyrus which dealt with the practice of medicine. Hypocrities (4th and 5th century B.C.) recorded using enemas for fever therapy. Galen (2nd century AD) was also a proponent of enemas.

Jump to the 21st century... and Dr. Kellogg reported in the 1917 Journal of American Medicine that in the treatment of gastrointestinal disease in over 40,000 cases, he had used surgery in only twenty cases. The rest were helped as a result of cleansing the bowels, diet, and exercise.

Colon hydrotherapy eventually gained the attention of James A. Wiltsie, M.D., who contended that

"our knowledge of the normal and abnormal physiology of the colon, and of its pathology and management, has not kept pace with that of many organs and systems of the body."

He went on to say, "As long as we continue to assume that the colon will take care of itself, just that long will we remain in complete ignorance of perhaps the most important source of ill health in the whole body."

And, I must share with you quotes from Bernard Jensen, a beloved American physician who understood the value in caring for our colon:

“If we lived correctly, there would be no need to concern ourselves
with the bowel. However, most of us are not living right.”

*(p. 6 Tissue Cleansing Through Bowel Management)

“In the 50 years I've spent helping people to overcome illness, disability
and disease, it has become crystal clear that poor bowel management
lies at the root of most people's health problems.”

*(p. 3 Tissue Cleansing Through Bowel Management)

“Bowel cleansing is an essential element in any lasting healing program.
The toxic waste must be removed as quickly as possible to halt the downward
spiral of falling health. This is best done by:

- removing accumulated fecal material from the bowel

- changing the diet from a toxin-producing process to that
of an elimination and cleansing diet

- fasting

- colonic flushing with enemas or colonic irrigations

- cleansing the mind of old habit patterns."

*(p. 67 Tissue Cleansing through Bowel Management)

Colon Hydrotherapy Today...

With modern technological advancements in instrumentation and therapist training, it has become a valuable adjunctive modality to the physician in treating disease, and for preventative health. (Please see our section titled: “What are sessions like” to learn how we at Colon Care, LLC offer colon hydrotherapy services)

What are the Effects of Colon Hydrotherapy?:

This procedure removes fecal material from the colon walls and dilutes the bacterial toxin concentration in the large intestine. The therapeutic effects of colon hydrotherapy are improved muscle tone which facilitates peristaltic action and enhances the absorption of nutrients from the cecum and ascending colon while minimizing the absorption of toxic waste material. The cleansing effects of colon hydrotherapy reduces stagnation and subsequent bacterial proliferation in the colon and maintains harmony of the intestinal flora in promoting optimal health.

Is Colon Hydrotherapy Different than an Enema?

Water during the usage of an enema bag typically reaches 8-12 inches of the rectum up into the intestine and enema usage is generally less than a quart of water. It is very effective for many situations, particularly when traveling. Mother's have used this form for their children for centuries.

During a colon hydrotherapy session, the entire 5 and 1/2 feet of the intestine can be reached and cleansed and a typical session uses 20 - 25 gallons of purified water. The water, temperature and flow rate are regulated during colon hydrotherapy. Colon Hydrotherapy Systems used by I-ACT Certified Therapists are Class II Medical Devices and are Registered by the FDA.

Colon Hydrotherapy is a far more effective and thorough way to cleanse the intestine. As you can see from the crude enema bag picture above, Colon Hydrotherapy is also more comfortable, relaxing and clean.

Despite critics, colonics gain grass-roots fans...

Colon hydrotherapists say they believe it's only a matter of time before the therapy gains an even wider acceptance with the public and, eventually, with the medical establishment.

A New Choice For Colonoscopy Preparation

In this article, dated January 24, 2008, a respected medical professional, Dr.Joseph Fiorito, M.D., chief of the Section of Gastroenterology, a nationally
recognized program at Danbury Hospital, a regional medical center and university teaching hospital in Danbury, Connecticut reinforces the advantages of colon hydrotherapy, in an article in which he refers to colon hydrotherapy as "an alternative method to cleanse the bowel to prepare for a colonoscopy -- one that is more convenient, quicker, and eliminates having to drink a gallon of liquid laxatives the night before".

What Our Wonderful Clients Have To Say...

Doctor Recommended...

"As a physician specializing in detoxification, I often send my patients for colonics. I am also familiar with each of the providers in Portland and ONLY refer to Colon Care. I know that when I send a patient to Rebecca for care, they will be handled professionally in a clean and comforting environment. She is highly trained and her protocols are sophisticated.

My patients have nothing but the best reports to give after visiting her. As a doctor I highly recommend her. - Dr. Justin Hoffman, Now in Santa Rosa, CA at

Fantastic experience...

Ever since my diagnosis of breast cancer in 2008, I have been a client of Rebecca for my detoxing and constipation. Colon care was recommended by my naturopath whom I respect and trust. I add that part because i am also in the medical field and am very critical of doctors both for their medical knowledge and personal concern.

Rebecca was professional, caring and encouraging from the moment I met her. Her ongoing concern for myself and other patients is why I continue to go to her under the direction of my naturopath. I will continue to go to her and recommend her to friends." - Katie T.

Clean, professional, doctor-referred...

"I can see why some doctors in the Portland area refer exclusively to Rebecca at Colon Care. The clinic is immaculate, and the process very comfortable and discreet.

Rebecca also has the experience to effectively communicate with her referring doctors to give the safest and most effective treatment for each client. She spends a lot of time educating her clients, and carefully determining what is best for them. Very highly recommended."
